Crowns can be made from different materials such as porcelain, metal and zirconia.

To make room for the crown, the affected tooth will undergo a dental preparation process. The crown will then be custom-made in a dental laboratory, taking into account the precise measurements of the prepared tooth. Once completed, the crown will be securely attached to your tooth using dental cement.

Once the bridge is ready, it will be cemented onto the supporting teeth..

Crown Preparation

A bridge is a method used to replace missing teeth.

  1. The preparation for a single tooth crown typically takes 30 to 60 minutes. Prior to starting the procedure, the relevant tooth will be numbed with a local anaesthetic, unless it has undergone a root canal treatment before. As a result, you will not experience any pain during the procedure, but may feel some pressure or vibrations
  2. During the preparation, material is removed from the outer surfaces of the tooth to create space and margins for the crown to securely fit.
  3. An intraoral scan and mould of the tooth are then taken and sent to a dental laboratory to construct the crown. If you are opting for a porcelain-fused-to-metal or full ceramic crown, you will have the opportunity to choose the desired colour with your dentist
  4. In the meantime, a temporary crown that matches the color of your tooth will be made and placed over the prepared tooth to protect it. It is important to avoid biting on hard or chewy foods with the temporary crown.
  5. If the temporary crown chips or comes off prematurely, it is recommended to visit your dentist as soon as possible.
Crown Fit

The crown fit appointment typically takes 15 to 30 minutes. During this visit, the temporary crown will be removed, and the final permanent crown will be tried on. The purpose of this is to ensure that the crown fits well, aligns properly with your bite and neighboring teeth, and meets your satisfaction in terms of color and overall appearance. Some minor adjustments may be necessary. Once everything is finalized, the permanent crown will be securely cemented onto your tooth. Local anesthesia is usually not required for this part of the procedure.

Treatment Procedure

Bridge Preparation

  1. The preparation for a bridge typically takes 30 to 90 minutes. Prior to starting the procedure, the supporting teeth involved will be fully numbed with a local anaesthetic, unless a root canal treatment has been previously performed. As a result, you will not experience any pain during the procedure, but you may feel some pressure or vibrations.
  2. Material is removed from the outer surfaces of the supporting teeth to create space and margins where the bridge can be securely placed, ensuring a seamless fit.
  3. To construct your bridge, an intraoral scan or impression of your supporting teeth and the space between them will be taken. This scan or impression will then be sent to a dental laboratory where your bridge will be fabricated. During this process, you will have the opportunity to choose the exact color you would like your bridge to be by discussing it with your dentist.
  4. As your final bridge is being created, a temporary bridge or temporary denture in a tooth-colored material will be made to temporarily fill the gap.
  5. To protect the integrity of the temporary bridge, it is best to avoid biting down on foods that are hard or chewy. If the temporary bridge happens to chip or come off unexpectedly, it is important to promptly schedule an appointment with your dentist for repair or replacement
Bridge Fit

During your bridge fitting appointment, which typically takes between 20 and 45 minutes, your temporary bridge will be removed and the final bridge will be tried-in. This step ensures that the bridge fits securely, complements the alignment of your bite and adjacent teeth, and satisfies your expectations for color and overall aesthetic appearance.

Minor adjustments may be necessary during this phase. Once the bridge has been finalized, it will be permanently secured in place on your supporting teeth using dental cement. It is typically not necessary to use local anesthesia for this part of the procedure.
